Working in a Man’s Field

I had different avenues to choose from back when deciding on what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Psychology interested me. The human mind has always intrigued me. Becoming a psychologist was on the top of my list. Teaching was also on the list. The idea of having summers off was a plus. I liked to write and enjoyed my creative writing class. I wondered if I could make it as a writer. But I have always been interested in drawing. Not quite having the artistic talent to make a living out of it, I turned to architecture. I took an architecture class in high school. I found it fun designing my own house. We then had to make a model of our houses that we designed. I could enjoy doing this for a living. Over the years the architecture part had turned more into the engineering end of the field. But even in this day and age discrimination still exists when a woman is working in a male dominated field. It may be different in other parts of the world or country. But where I live, I have never been treated like an equal partner in this field. I have experience discrimination in the worst way. If I had to do it all over again, I would not choose a man’s field to work in.
