Advertisers Know All About Me

Sometime towards the end of 2008, I began to receive coupons for expectant mothers, diaper samples, large cans of baby formula, several catalogs of baby items and maternity clothes catalogs. Free subscription to 'American Baby' and 'nourishing dreams' and the list goes on. These subscriptions lasted for more than a year. I no longer get baby formula and diaper samples, but an occasional coupon or life insurance offer for my baby will arrive in the mail. In my email which was never handed out to these advertisers, I was sent countless information about my new baby. I still get a weekly email to follow the stages of my child. It is very informative. We are heading for the walking stage. Sure I could hit unsubscribe, though I never subscribed to begin with. This prompt me to write an article (lens) on Squidoo titled 'Pregnant Over 40?' http://www.squidoo.com/pregnant-over-40 To make this clear, it has been many years since I was pregnant. The only thing that I can figure out is that the advertisers spied on my comments to articles written by other lensmasters on children or a lens they wrote on baby products. Then my name went on a list. My blog http://oldmiddleage.blogspot.com and it has been online since Nov. 2007. I have jokes and articles about middle age. But I haven't written much on it lately and it doesn't really get traffic. Advertisers never sent me anything about my elderly years. Until today, Sept. 7, 2010, though I think this is coming from the fact that I recently opened a new Zazzle shop called funnyjokes shop. This shop not only has funny sayings and designs, it makes fun of getting old. It must have gotten some attentions from people who really know me…the advertisers. Today, my husband throws an envelope in my face and laughs. It is from the SCOOTER Store addressed to me. I wonder if my insurance covers this since I have many years before being eligible for Medicare (if it will still be there). My feet are still working, though it might be fun riding around on a scooter. Can't wait to see what else comes in the mail or email. Maybe a some Depends samples.

Sandy, Might as well apply for one of those scooters now, cause there won't be any freebies when you retire.

I'm not so sure it would be free for me. They will work with Medicare.
Thank you for sharing this advise on how our names get spread around with advertisers, Sandy. Once we expose ourselves to the internet,the world can look at us!! Maybe not the whole world, but enough to make us nervous.
