A Slinky
By Sandy Mertens
Are you one of the lucky ones who had a real Slinky while growing up? Not the plastic, short little toys that are sold now. But the long metal toy with the thin metal looped round and round into this long shaped snake looking toy. This included 98 coils of high-grade blue-black Swedish steel. It also came with instructions on all the different tricks that you could do with the Slinky. I remember having Slinky races down my basement steps with my friends. Whoever had the Slinky which finished to the bottom of the stairs after going done each step in a walking fashion was the winner. The only drawback with this toy was that if you weren't careful, the metal would get twisted and tangled together. It would become a pain to undo it. Afterwords the Slinky was never the same. Those were the days when toys were cheap and imagination was high. Remember the commercial? "Everyone wants a Slinky." |
